Flame Retardant Chemicals on BBC Radio London
Terry Edge was a senior civil servant who was given the job of re-writing the UK Furniture Fire Regulations. This was after the Government department responsible realised the current regulations did not work. These regulations introduced the chemical flame retardants into our furniture, first used from the USA. Terry’s new regulations were never implemented after the Government came under pressure from interested bodies who wanted to keep the old regulations, despite the fact they did not work. Terry then resigned and became a “whistle blower” and has been working with us in order to change the regulations and reduce the amount of chemicals.
On Thursday 31st October he spoke openly to BBC Radio London about flame retardants and toxicity.
