What size is a king size natural mattress?
The answer to what size is a King Size natural mattress is 150cm x 200cm in the United Kingdom, being 10cm wider and longer than a Double.
We find many customers find the King size natural mattress to be a perfect size choice, allowing more room for two people to sleep in comfort. However, whilst buying a King Size mattress for yourself is relatively straight forward, as you only have your needs and preferences to consider, what happens when you have two people with different needs sharing the same bed?
Here at Cottonsafe® Natural Mattress, we have had to negotiate many compromises between couples when it comes to purchasing a King Size bed to be shared. Below are the points we would encourage you to consider when considering your mattress options as a pair:
- King Size Mattress Priorities
Write down your individual preferences and the priorities. Hopefully, you will both agree that your king size mattress must be Chemical Free which is why you are with us at Cottonsafe, but what about feel? Is budget your primary concern? Have either of you got allergies and therefore need to consider material choice? Once you have your lists of preferences, list them in terms of priority and cross reference to find out your joint important factors.
- King Size Natural Mattress Feel
As all our mattresses are hand side-stitched, the feel of a King Size mattress will differ from a smaller size mattress. The hand side-stitching firms the edges of the mattress, so the true feel of the spring set is felt in the middle section of the mattress that has not been affected by the stitching. With a King Size mattress being a larger size, there is a greater area of the mattress not firmed by the side stitching, making it typically feel marginally softer than its smaller mattress relatives.
All our mattresses offer either a Medium or a Firm spring set with various materials covering the surface to provide different “top feels” (how much you sink into the surface). Therefore, if the two users of the mattress have different feel preferences, a common compromise will be to agree on a spring firmness for one, and top feel for the other.
For example, if one partner prefers a firmer feel mattress, but the other prefers something medium soft, a good compromise would be to go for a Medium spring set (which 95% of our customers opt for) with a mattress model that has more give in the top surface. Something like the Vegan Choice which has a good strong support core that will keep the spine aligned and provide a firm level of support whilst having more give and cushioning on the top feel of the mattress. There would also be the option to choose a Firm spring set should you both feel that firmness is necessary.

- King Size Mattress Materials
We offer 9 different mattress models, all using different materials which create the different surface feels in our mattresses. Some of our mattresses are completely natural, such as our Widecombe All Wool mattress, which is fantastic for those wanting to get back to basics with natural fibres (there is 19 Kilos of wool in a double UK mattress!). For those wanting natural fibres but a softer, more luxurious feel, our Exeter mattress is the only mattress available in a Soft Spring. With sumptuous layers of Cashmere and wool, this mattress offers nature’s most comfortable fibres without any chemical treatment, producing our softest mattress yet.
We also offer the first Vegan Mattress range to be registered with the Vegan Society that offers a completely chemical free night’s sleep without any animal products. The Vegan Range is particularly important for those who have allergies, as our ‘Purity’ Polyester cover is hypoallergenic and designed to regulate body temperature to prevent overheating. For our customers who have allergy concerns or skin sensitivities, such as eczema or psoriasis, the hypoallergenic nature of the Vegan range offers peace of mind as well as a comfortable night’s sleep. Still not sure if you are comfortable with Polyester?
