TradLux Futomat – Natural, Chemical-Free Futon Mattress

Covered in our clever Cottonsafe® natural, chemical-free mattress cover, this totally unique futon-style mattress is completely free from chemical fire retardants while naturally meeting all relevant UK fire regulations.

Made using the very best organic cotton and organic wool, offering a naturally comfortable and safe sleeping surface. We have developed a unique blend of natural fibres, woven here in the UK at a leading British cotton mill.

Each TradLux Futomat mattress is handmade to order and quality assured by our skilled craftsmen, ensuring attention to detail and a consistently high standard of workmanship.

Traditional Japanese-Inspired Support

The TradLux Futomat is designed for use on solid or sprung slatted bed bases or a Tatami Mat and reflects a traditional Japanese approach to sleeping.

Unlike conventional mattresses, the natural fibres are designed to settle and gently compress beneath your body weight. This creates a distinctive, firmer style of support. If you are new to sleeping on a traditional futon-style mattress, we recommend discussing the product with us before purchase to ensure it is right for you.

Natural Compression & Thickness

The initial uncompressed thickness is approximately 5–7 inches, settling to around 3–5 inches of solid support under pressure.

As the mattress is used, the cotton will gradually compress. Over several months, you can expect approximately 20% compression as the fibres settle and conform to your sleeping pattern.

Futon-style mattresses benefit from regular maintenance. We recommend flipping and rotating your mattress every week or two to encourage even settlement of the natural fibres and help minimise uneven body impressions and sagging.

With the right care, your TradLux Futomat can provide a naturally supportive and distinctive sleeping experience for years to come.

Temperature regulating

We’ve selected fibres which promote only the most comfortable nights sleep, all our fibres are known for their clever body temperature regulating properties and will support your body to naturally keep cool in the warmer months and stay warm when it gets colder.

Cotton and wool are both known for naturally absorbing and dispersing moisture away, creating a clean dry, environment that’s resistant to dust mites and bacteria growth.

Product CareProduct Care

The TradLux Futomat is a double-sided futon style mattress, it requires regular flipping and rotating.

It is not uncommon for dipping to appear in your Futomat where the natural fibres have been compressed. We recommend you flip and rotate weekly for the first 4 – 6 months to allow the fillings to settle evenly across the top surface.

Please be aware, that unlike our other mattresses the Tradlux doesn't use a core layer such as a spring or Latex and it will settle in well used areas. This is the nature of the product and is not a manufacturing issue. It is a very different sleep surface to a more traditional sprung mattress so if you have any questions, please get in touch!
