“There were four in the bed and the little one said roll over”
Finding the right size mattress is imperative to a comfortable night's sleep. Whether you’re buying a new bed frame or using an existing one you’ll need to make sure it fits. With retailers selling frames built for the European market sizes can vary where terminology remains the same as that of the UK.
We make all of our mattresses to standard UK mattress sizes, we also cater for the increasingly popular European sizes.
If you need something a little more bespoke, then no problem. Everything is handmade so just give us a ring 01395 239832 or drop us an email sales@cottonsafenaturalmattress.co.uk and we will happily talk through the options.
Below is a bit more information on the standard sizes we produce, the same size rules apply to toppers which hopefully keeps things simple!

Single Mattresses
Small single, single and long single mattresses are often bought for children or for guest bedrooms. The small single, as it is just 76cms wide is a popular choice for smaller spaces. A traditional single is 90cm wide and 190cm long, perfect for children.
Long singles 90x200cm are often bought in pairs to be joined together (zip and link) to create a Super king mattress. This is a popular choice for guest rooms as the beds can be separated and joined as appropriate. They are also a creative way for those with difficult access issues such as tight staircases to have a Super king mattress.
Double Mattresses
Small double (120x190cm) & Double (140x190cm) bed mattresses are common choices for children as they get a little older and for people with limited space. Doubles, though made with two people in mind, are also a popular choice for individuals looking for a bit more room than that afforded by a single mattress.
King & Euro King (Queen) Mattresses
King and Euro king (sometimes known as Queen) sized mattresses are the most popular sized mattresses for adults. Measuring in at 150x200cm for the King and 160x200cm for the Euro King respectively, they offer just that bit more space. They are also 10cm longer than the doubles, which although it doesn’t sound a lot, makes a big difference if you are fairly tall.
Super King
Super King mattresses are 180x200cm and are perfect for those with a large amount of space. They are also popular with families as they afford everyone plenty of room. Lets face it, if you can fit one in, who wouldn’t want one! Worth remembering that this is a large item so access can be problematic particularly in older houses. That doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy a Super King sized bed though. Two long single mattresses together (Zip and Link) will give you all the space you need.
Emperor
The Emperor mattress is the biggest standard mattress that we make. It measures in at a colossal 200x200cm. What was once quite a rare mattress size in the UK, we are starting to see it becoming more and more popular here. The sheer size of these mattresses can make them difficult to get into smaller house, so worth thinking about access before ordering. If you have the space, it’s a mattress for Kings, Queens and Emperors everywhere!
Mattress Depth
All of our mattress depths are measured on a flat surface up to the fullest point. The mattress depths can be found on their individual pages alongside everything you need to know to pick the right one for you. Its worth noting that any natural fibre mattress will settle slightly over time (up to 2cm) so we recommend regular flipping and rotating of the mattress to ensure the settlement occurs evenly.
